
DEADLY QUAKE HITS TIBET: 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Kills Over 100, Leaves Trail of Destruction
A powerful earthquake struck Tibet on January 7, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life. The quake, which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, occurred at 9:05 am local time, with its epicenter located in Tingri County, Tibet Autonomous Region.¹
According to reports, at least 106 people have lost their lives, while 174 others have been injured in Tibet. The earthquake also caused widespread damage, with over 1,000 homes collapsing in Tingri County alone.
The impact of the earthquake was felt beyond Tibet’s borders, with tremors reported in Nepal, India, and Bhutan. In Nepal, 13 people were injured, while several homes were damaged or destroyed.
Rescue efforts are underway, with over 1,500 personnel, 75 vehicles, and four search dogs deployed to the affected areas. The Chinese government has also distributed relief supplies, including tents, quilts, and folding beds, to those affected by the earthquake.
